WHY IS WORKING AT HEIGHT SO CHALLENGING?
The potential for accidents is ever present in the working environment
when you add the extra dimension of height to the mix the stakes go up considerably!
Complacency at ground level can lead to injury and worse………
but at height even a minor accident can prevent you from being able to get down safely
so you can become a casualty who requires rescue resulting from a relatively minor injury.
For example a twisted ankle:
At ground level it will be painful and probably require a GP visit, x-rays and maybe a cast.
But if you twist an ankle while at height now you can no longer safely climb down a ladder and so there needs to be a rescue plan in place before any work at height can take place. Just getting the
casualty down to a safe place to carry out an assessment even before evacuation can be tricky with the added risk of injury to the rescuer/s. That’s why an annual rescue drill/exercise is essential.
